Position Purpose

Reporting to the Program Manager, Continuous Quality Improvement is responsible for providing oversight and leadership to the Infection Prevention and Control programs for the LTC Homes (“Homes”) and Seniors Community Programs ; developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating infection control programs; ensuring infection control measures are in place, including policies and procedures, surveillance, education and infection control practices to be compliant with legislation and policy; advising on educational content to be provided to staff at orientation and through ongoing training with a primary focus on clinical practice; acting as a subject matter expert responsible for promoting, developing, implementing and assessing best practices; leading assigned programs; and participating in other programs as assigned.

Major Responsibilities

• As directed by applicable Legislation, Regulations and Standards, including accreditation Standards, leads the Infection Prevention and Control required program at the Long-Term Care Homes and Seniors Community Programs.
• Ensures that effective and timely infection prevention and control practices, policies and procedures are embedded in all areas, based on best practice guidelines.
• In collaboration with Public Health, Directors of Care and Home clinical IPAC lead, supports the immunization / vaccination program for Seniors Community Programs staff, long-term care residents, staff, and volunteers.
• In collaboration with the Director Of Care (DOC) and IPAC Program Lead, determine training requirements to ensure compliance with legislation, directives, policies and procedures.
• Acts as a resource to staff and management regarding training and education, including new developments/techniques related to resident care and infection presentation and control.
• Advises on the development of training and education related to pertinent legislation, best practices, regulations, policies, practices, technologies and skills development consistent with divisional programs.
• Researches and conducts regular analysis, surveys and assessments to maintain current material and practices.
• Identifies inconsistencies in policies and practices, and recommends actions to remedy.
• In collaboration with the IPAC clinical leads, completes, updates, reviews and analyzes relevant quality indicators.
• Provide tools for ongoing surveillance to determine the presence of infection and complete monthly reports.
• Responds to inquiries and resolves concerns, as appropriate.
• Ensures that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
• Acts as an IPAC resource and provides IPAC expertise during emergency response.

Qualifications

• Completion of a University Degree in Health Sciences, Social Sciences or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Current Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control.
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in the health sector with at least two years leading/coordinating an infection prevention and control program or project.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in analysis, measurement and evaluative methods, facilitation and presentation skills.
• Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
